How PositionAlpha Scores Work
How COT Scores, confluence tiers, and factor weights turn raw data into readable market intelligence.
What it is
PositionAlpha converts weekly COT category changes, seasonal tendencies, and technical regime inputs into transparent readings: a COT Score, factor directions (bullish/bearish/neutral), and confluence tiers such as aligned, single, or mixed. The goal is interpretability — you can see which factors drive a featured market.
Why it matters
Black-box tips hide uncertainty. Knowing that an asset is featured because COT and seasonality agree — or only because one factor is active — changes how much weight you should give the shortlist. Methodology literacy reduces misuse of the dashboard as a signal service.
How traders use it
Read the COT Score with its as-of date, check whether seasonality agrees, note the regime, then decide if the setup fits your playbook. Use Learn articles for each factor. Open the public market page first, then the dashboard for charts. Never size a trade from a score alone.
Example
Gold shows COT Score +40, bullish seasonality, and an uptrend regime → aligned research bias. Oil shows bullish COT but bearish seasonality → mixed tier, wait for clarity or smaller risk.
Deeper context
Primary confluence drivers are COT and seasonality. Daily tendency and momentum act as confirmation context inside the app. Locked or redacted breakdowns for anonymous or free tiers still show high-level direction where the API allows. Premium expands markets and research surfaces; it does not change the educational nature of the product. For the formula emphasis on commercials versus specs, see the COT Score guide.
Common mistakes
Equating “featured” with “enter long”; ignoring locked detail; mixing timeframes (weekly COT vs intraday chart) without acknowledging lag.
